Jazz Jennings, the star of I Am Jazz, is back at Harvard, leaving viewers wondering about her long and storied history with the Ivy League school. After graduating from high school, Jazz was accepted to Pomona College in Claremont, CA, and Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. Viewers recall that her parents strongly pushed for Jazz to attend Harvard, citing its sterling reputation, and the fact that it was a shorter flight from their home in Florida.
In past seasons of I Am Jazz, viewers saw the college-bound teen struggle with maintaining her independence, instead opting for pleasing her parents. She adores her family, including her often-seen on-screen grandparents. However, the TLC star has shown a proclivity for not only deferring to her parents, but setting very high expectations for herself. Although Jazz had her heart set on Pomona, she ultimately chose to attend Harvard. Viewers watched as Jazz’s Harvard journey took a few twists and turns, and they wonder if she is thriving in the school’s competitive environment.

Jazz Took Time Out Before Returning to Harvard
Despite Jazz’s support system, the I Am Jazz celeb has faced obstacles, including clinical depression, weight gain, haters on social media, and troubles during her freshman year at Harvard. Following her high school graduation in 2019, Jazz announced that she was heading to the famed school. Just prior to that, Jazz underwent gender confirmation surgery, with multiple complications. Shortly into her freshman year, Jazz announced via Instagram that she would be exiting Harvard: “After careful consideration I have decided to take a break before starting at Harvard….I could use some time to refocus and recenter to be the strongest version of myself.”
I Am Jazz viewers watched her return to south Florida, where Jazz saw a therapist after gender confirmation surgery. She spent time engaging in trans rights activities, connecting with friends, and becoming a social media icon, despite her struggles with anxiety (and with learning to be her best self). Two years later, she decided to go back to Harvard. The school set certain rules before readmitting her, letting Jazz know that she'd need to do volunteer work, submit a letter from a therapist indicating her readiness to return, and arrange a clinical team to oversee her mental and physical health while she was at Harvard.
The dedicated, young LGBTQIA+ activist has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Harvard, and viewers have been following her momentous journey on TLC, wondering what comes next for the spirited 21-year-old. Fans are excited that Jazz was welcomed back to Harvard University for the fall 2022 semester. Although she is a widely recognized influencer in trans issues, Jazz admits to being easily overwhelmed by fans approaching her; she answers a lot of questions. This is likely why little information is available on how she is currently doing at Harvard, aside from a few social media posts that show her enjoying her time at the university. Season 7 wrapped with Jazz heading back to Harvard, and TLC recently announced that I Am Jazz season 8 will air in 2023.
